Ticket and permit fees provide critical funding for backcountry programs, facility maintenance, and ranger-led tours. In addition, this funding helps maintain over 150 miles of backcountry roads, more than 100 miles of trails, 67 backcountry campsites, and multiple boats used for river patrols and emergency response.
Colorado National Monument Fall 2021 News
The time has come, and we couldn’t be more excited. On September 26th through October 3rd, 22 artists from around the country will spend their days and evenings creating paintings of Colorado National Monument and its surrounding areas.
Canyonlands September 2021 Updates
Since 2019, the National Park Service has led several data collection efforts to inform management of congestion and crowding within the park. These public meetings will be an opportunity to share findings from those efforts as well as discuss ongoing studies.

As an isolated “sky island” surrounded on all sides by semiarid, low-elevation, canyon dissected terrain, the La Sal Mountains, southeast of Moab, are truly unique in the region. In fact, the high peaks and ridgelines above treeline support one of the few true alpine communities on the Colorado Plateau.
