Upcoming Events at Grand Canyon Late Summer 2022

The Poetry of the Stars with Lauren Camp

Award-winning poet, Lauren Camp, was selected as Grand Canyon’s newest Astronomer in Residence. Lauren plans to explore, through the written word, the subtle emotions, aesthetic qualities, and complex thoughts we all feel under the vastness of the night skies.

The Grand Canyon has welcomed a long history of poets who have attempted to capture its beauty with the pen–Grand Canyon Conservancy and the National Park Service are excited to facilitate one of the best poetic minds in the country toward Grand Canyon’s pristine natural darkness.

Along with creating poetry, Lauren will offer public programs during her residency, including three evening presentations called “The Poetry of the Stars”. Attendees will join Lauren at the South Rim Visitor Center for an evening of poetry and stargazing. Each session will include a short poetry reading under the night skies, followed by a constellation talk with a park ranger.

Lauren’s upcoming programs will be on August 24 and 28 at 8:30 pm PDT.

On-Site and Virtual 14th Annual Celebration of Art

Celebration of Art is back for its 14th annual event at Grand Canyon National Park!

This year we are welcoming back many of our veteran artists while several new artists will join us as well. Come and watch as 22 plein air artists set up their canvases on-site to capture the ever-changing colors and light of Grand Canyon. And don’t forget that each of their stunning pieces will be available to purchase. The catalogue showcasing the studio paintings can be viewed here.

The event will kick off with an online silent auction on September 2. The on-site component begins with the artists painting “en plein air” at the South Rim on September 10-16.

For more information, visit the Grand Canyon Conservancy’s page on the event.
